Civics and Citizenship:  Classification:  SS

(This course does not qualify as a US History course for the purposes of the graduation requirements of the North Atlantic Regional High School. To qualify, for US History, the course must have the classification “US”)

Civics and Citizenship education is essential for active participation by informed citizens. This course should emphasize a study of government and individual rights and responsibilities. Examination of rules, laws, and the need for authority is crucial to maintaining a safe society for individuals and groups. Civic understanding increases as students develop the skills to make informed decisions, to resolve conflicts peacefully, to articulate and defend positions, and to engage in the civic and political life of their communities.
