Textbooks for PE are rare. Therefore, to earn a credit in Physical Education, the student must devise a way “to promote physical well-being, self-esteem, self-awareness, sportsmanship, and interpersonal skills. This requirement may include but is not limited to: physical fitness, fundamental motor skills and patterns, adaptive physical education, individual and group sports. Physical education may include special physical education, movement education, and motor development.”
This section of the NARS High School Handbook is quoted from the curriculum to meet graduation requirements in our state. Please note that it does not require physical activity. Rather, PE can be the study of physical activity and its related emotional and psychological benefits.
This section contains 4 specific examples of self-designed courses and 1 general outline for Physical Education Evaluation (general).
There are virtually no limits to what a student can do to earn a high school credit in PE. Perhaps none of these will apply to any of your student’s interests. In that case, feel free to design your own to suit your student. You may pattern your design and content after the formats demonstrated here. |
